Retired priest and former New York Metropolis Councilman Louis Gigante was slapped with a lawsuit that accused him of sexually assaulting a 9-year-old boy within the Nineteen Seventies in a Bible examine course.
Gigante, whose brother was mob boss Vincent “The Chin,” allegedly compelled the child to carry out oral intercourse at St. Athanasius Church within the Bronx, paperwork filed in Bronx County courtroom confirmed.
“The Archdiocese knew or ought to have identified that Father Gigante was sexually abusing youngsters and/or had the propensity to take action,” the grievance reads, in line with The Bronx Instances.
“The defendants Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York, and St. Athanasius Roman Catholic Church knew or ought to have identified of the abuse that Mr. Doe and different younger youngsters have been struggling by the hands of their clergy.”
Gigante can also be identified for nonprofit housing developments in Hunt’s Level neighborhood within the Nineteen Eighties.
The swimsuit was filed underneath state’s 2019 Baby Victims Act, which provides victims a window to file for previous claims of sexual abuse, the Bronx Instances reported.
NYC legislation agency Curis legislation, who’s representing the plaintiff, advised The Bronx Instances it hopes the Aug. 14 expiration date to file fits underneath The Baby Victims Act can be prolonged.
“We commend all little one sexual abuse survivors coming ahead and searching for justice,” the assertion reads. “It’s unlucky that the August 14, 2021 deadline will quickly come to an finish and look to New York State to implement new laws to take away time restrictions because the trauma and struggling for these survivors is eternal.”
